major alterations & additions
With a focus on major alterations and additions, our carefully considered extension design solutions completely transform and add value to our client’s homes, maximising the potential of the existing dwelling. We design light and bright extensions that utilise the available natural light and ventilation on each site to deliver a functional and beautiful space. We work with each client to understand how their family uses each space, and the constraints and opportunities of the existing home, before designing a bespoke solution.
DUAL OCCUPANCY & multi dwellings
Our dual occupancy and multi-dwelling (townhouse) designs are known to be a uniquely enjoyable experience for both occupants and potential purchasers to walk through - we spend the time during design phases creating special yet simple moments within the floor plan and facades, to stand out from the rest and add value to each property we create.
Importantly, Amy’s passion for maximising developement sites, and her strong technical and legislation knowledge, makes Ellis Studio an in demand studio for achieving what seems impossible on complex sites, or simply maximising standard sites. Our carefully selected team of preferred consultants work with us to ensure a smooth approval process through both CDC and DA pathways.
INTERIOR DESIGN
Our in-house interior designer works with Amy on the interior design of selected projects. We apply the same careful process and focus on function, joy, and timeless design, as we do on our architectural projects.
Our interior design process is fun, bespoke, and personal - with knowledge of the latest products, materials, and styles.

Our Process
1. PRE DESIGN
Our most important stage, where we carefully collect and interrogate project information in order to have a blank canvas full of knowledge and information, ready for Phase 2. Amy will hold a detailed briefing session in this phase which is tailored to each of our clients in order to deeply understand each unique functional and aesthic brief. We also collect all relevant data and constraints information related to your project, to understand the approval process, complexities, breif, and budget, and create 3D models of the existing property and surrounds.
2. CONCEPT DESIGN (PLANS + FACADE)
After completing the project brief and site analysis, we carefully test and create design layout options for your floor plans. We combine our ideas with your brief, budget, and approval requirements, to create design options that meet your needs and functional requirements. We communicate the options to you through meetings at two stages - the Floor Plans stage, and the Facade Design (3D) Stage - with each stage being workshop focused so that you are involved in the design process the entire way and encouraged to have input and make changes.
3. DEVELOPMENT & DA/CDC DOCUMENTS
Once you select your chosen design option, we work with you to further refine the design. This will include developing and refining each interior and exterior space. Your chosen concept will merge into a set of drawings that describe the function and aesthetic attributes of your home, every window, the BASIX energy requirements, materials, and the like. Engineering and other professionals will be engaged to finalise any application requirements, before we collate all information and lodge the project for approval on your behalf.
4. CONSTRUCTION CERTIFICATE AND SITE SERVICES
Upon project approval, we can take the stress out of the process by managing the project construction certificate stage on your behalf.
Our experience extends to being able to provide full construction documentation where required, and to manage the project on site on your behalf, or a hybrid scope using some of these services.
This is also the stage where interior design is completed.
